Player’s note:
Ranidel De Ocampo is one of the rare big men in the league who can shoot triples and considered with a great footwork.
With that, the younger de Ocampo has all the traits to become a legitimate star in the league.
The 6-5 forward possesses defensive skills and a deft touch from the perimeter. His 37.7 percent clip beyond the arc was seventh best among locals last season.
After a so-so performance in his first year, the younger De Ocampo created an impact in the 2005 and 2006 seasons by improving his rookie numbers 5.8 points per game to 13.3 in his sophomore year in 37 of 51 games played. He also registered 6.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists in that year. In the last Fiesta Conference, Ranidel was loaned to the RP-San Miguel National Team that competed in the FIBA-Asia Olympic Qualifying event in Tokushima, Japan.
Achievements: a member of the RP-San Miguel RP Team, a 2004-2005 PBA All-Rookie Team, 2000 PBL Chairman’s new top comer, and PBL mythical team selection in 2002 and 2003, member of eight-time NCRAA champion Saint Francis and NCRAA four-time MVP.
Career-high: Ranidel De Ocampo exploded a career-high 33 points in Air21’s 127-110 win over Talk ‘N Text last October 19, 2006 in Antipolo city.
He first notched his career high 24 points last December 10, 2006 to help the Express upset the Gin Kings, 109-101 in an out-of-town game in Ormoc City.
Two days later, Ranidel immediately erased his previous high as he drilled in 28 points on a torrid 11-of-15 shooting in the field and had eight rebounds and three assists in a 98-94 Air21 victory over Coca-Cola.
More about the player:
Ranidel is proud to be compared to elder brother Yancy, but he will be happy enough to earn his own trademark in the PBA.
An inside and outside threat, Ranidel possesses a deadly touch from the perimeter and a string body that can go up against the big boys in the league.
He was also a member of the RP Youth and the RP team that won the SEABA crown and the SEA Games title in 2003 under coach Aric del Rosario.
Statistics: Last Fiesta Conference: Did not play due to National team commitment
